DRAINAGE TILE

Drainage tiles can protect your home from water damage by directing water and seepage away from your home. The drain tile is usually made from PVC piping that is punctured on one side. The pipe is set in a trench and covered and the water it collects is then transferred to a sump pump.

There are two types of drainage tiles that can be installed:

Interior Drainage Tile
Most often, interior drainage tile is placed underneath the foundation of a home, although at times it can also be placed around the edges or above the concrete slab. To install the tile below the foundation, a trench that is at least a foot deep will need to be dug in the concrete slab. Once the tile is placed inside, the trench will then be covered and new concrete will be filled in.

Exterior Drainage Tile

Exterior drainage tile is placed underneath the yard surrounding your home. It is common for it to be installed when a new home is being built, but it can be added or replaced at any point. The exterior drainage tile (or footing drain) collects the extra water below the surface and redirects it into a sump pump and away from your home’s foundation. This is one of the best options to prevent flooding and other water damage to your property.
